Tuesday – 18
Monday was a bust with rain all day but it was clear by Tuesday. I have been leery of riding on the Silver Creek Bridge heading out of New Albany but the road along the river is quite enjoyable outside of the 2 minutes of terror that is the bridge. The weather was really pretty good and I was dressed and ready t o go. I thought for this ride I would take plenty of pictures to liven up my post.
This is the K & I railroad bridge. It links the Portland area to New Albany. Back in the day it was used for car and foot traffic. Somehow it is not safe enough for those uses but OK for freight trains?!?!?
Another shot of the K & I. I love looking at train bridges, train trestles, abandoned lines and bridges.
This is a shot of downtown Louisville via the LG & E hydro plant via a fallen tree. I really liked the framing of the picture. The picture slightly betrays how good this looked.
These are two pictures from the boat dock area of the Lewis and Clark landing area. One looking back downtown and on at the Hydro plant or McAlpine Lock discharge.
Here is a picture overlooking the Falls of the Ohio Interpretive Center. Notice the fossil beds spread out for viewing and exploring.
Here is another railroad bridge of which the name escapes me. This one is very close to downtown and surely serves the Colgate plant etc.
And finally a shot of the ‘ville. That riverside city we call home.
Satisfied with my picture taking I realized I was feeling good about 10 miles into the ride. I decided to head out to the end of the frontage road in Jeffersonville and back. It added about 2 miles total of good flat riding and pushed me from 16 to 18 miles.
It was a good day to be out and my last at work for the week. I was headed out for 5 days of break and hoping to sneak some rides in over the break.
