The climb is roughly 1 mile and averages 8-9%. I started up in the 42t ring, there is a strong opening pitch that sent me straight to the easiest ratio available to me – 42/25. A few rotations in the shifter moved and clunked me right back into the 21t cog. The down tube shifters on the bike do not currently have enough tension to hold the gearing in place under load.

A Ride with George

October 10th, 2009 · View Comments · Bikes

I recently stumbled upon this trailer for a documentary put together on the very popular George Hincapie: I think it looks awesome… Fortunately our very cool local video store (and how many towns can legitimately brag about a very cool video store these days…) Wild and Woolly Video is owned by a bike geek. He [...]

Local cycling coverage

Two weekends ago a very unfortunate accident happened in Louisville during a triathlon. A man heavily under the influence plowed in to a gentleman from the race and killed him. By all accounts the driver was a ticking time bomb and it appears he will have the book thrown at him. Triathete John Carr A [...]

Riding through the summertime…

August 12th, 2009 · View Comments · Bikes, Rides

MTD – 170 YTD – 2408 I have ridden many miles since my last update. I have found it increasingly difficult to maintain these updates I guess as many people do… I have learned first hand the feel of pack dynamics. I was behind a gentleman on the Sunday afternoon ride who took some train [...]

Tuesday – 14 On Tuesday the weather was poor and I don’t really have a great option for bad weather riding so I finally used the set of rollers I got from a friend at work. Riding the rollers was a very interesting experience. It is intimidating to start because you are just kind of [...]

A New Project

January 30th, 2009 · View Comments · Bikes, Mobile

Picked up yesterday from Craigslist: It is a lugged steel AMF frame. Interestingly enough there is a sticker right above the bottom bracket indicating it was made by Bridgestone in Tokyo Japan. It’s a project for sure. I will probably make it a fixie for a little different riding situation. In the short term I [...]

Penguin Waddle

January 17th, 2009 · View Comments · Bikes

YTD – 108 MTD – 108 Friday – 18 I rode a grueling lunch ride on Monday – using a route I rode before that goes out Old Vincennes to Old Hill Road. It is a large opening climb followed by heavy rolling hills and ends with a return on the hated Green Valley Road. [...]
