A century ride(100 miles) has been a goal of mine for the year. I built up with some solo rides here and there in the summer mostly topping out around 60 miles or so. While that is a pretty good ride it leaves a fair amount to go. With my sisters wedding out of the [...]

The climb is roughly 1 mile and averages 8-9%. I started up in the 42t ring, there is a strong opening pitch that sent me straight to the easiest ratio available to me – 42/25. A few rotations in the shifter moved and clunked me right back into the 21t cog. The down tube shifters on the bike do not currently have enough tension to hold the gearing in place under load.

After amassing close to 200 miles in the first few days of the month a wrench was thrown in my progress. Business required me to head out of town for Thursday and Friday, the weekend offered no relief as my wife worked pretty much all of it and my favor pool is currently light. Monday [...]

YTD – 2834 MTD – 161 Tuesday – 19 Right before I went to get dressed for riding the USPS showed with a new eBay purchase – some vintage wool in bright orange. Eschewing any sort of washing or whatever I just put that baby right on. Fit was good although a little long. The [...]

YTD – 2815 MTD – 142 The long weekend was looking like a no-go for riding for me…then my loving Mother called and asked if I wanted her to watch the children so I could ride…uh yeah. I thought little of the sprinkling rain as I drove out. I don’t mind a little rain and [...]

72 miles, 24 hours, 4 showers…

MTD – 376 YTD – 2614 Louisville was given an unlikely respite in late August this year. The temperature plunged to low and mid 70s, humidity disappeared, and a cool breeze filled the air. Perfect opportunity to really build some miles. I had to sit off to the side both weekend days past. The schedules [...]
Riding through the summertime…

MTD – 170 YTD – 2408 I have ridden many miles since my last update. I have found it increasingly difficult to maintain these updates I guess as many people do… I have learned first hand the feel of pack dynamics. I was behind a gentleman on the Sunday afternoon ride who took some train [...]

A Tale of Two Hills…

I have spent the last few ride days seeking hard hills to climb in the Knobs outside of New Albany. Fortunately it does not take much looking. Last Friday in the most most oppressive heat we have seen this year I set out to right the wrong of a week’s past when navigation errors prevented [...]

MTD – 211 YTD – 1544 Although I took a break from updating this blog I have not taken a break from riding my bike. I am as addicted as ever and compulsively racking up miles where I can get them. My yearly target is up to 3000 miles and may get upgraded again. This [...]

A Nice Week for Riding

YTD – 940 MTD – 241 I started the week with the fourth ride of The River City Cycling Society dubbed the Paris-Redux or the hell of the ‘Ville. Both very tongue in cheek appropriations of the Classic Paris-Roubaix road race held in Northern France each Easter. The race’s claim to fame outside of its [...]
